I shot this family back when there was only 3 of them. Big brother and big sister weren't too happy about having their pictures taken, but I think we got a few good ones. Balloons | Holland MI Photography

We've lived in our house for nearly five years. We have a large lot a few doors down where hot air balloons launch. In all the years I've lived here, i've missed the launches. Every.Single.One.

I was so excited this evening to be driving home and see the hot air balloon people setting up to launch. I quickly dropped my husband off, grabbed my camera and ran out the door. The people launching the balloon were super nice and let me get up close and personal.

The young girl that was about to go up was a nervous wreck. Although I didn't catch her name or circumstances, I was giddy for her (thanks to her, I was able to catch this launch. :)

This will be something that definately goes on my bucket list. I hope that my husband (both of us are a little afraid of heights, but ssshhh...don't tell him I told you that) and I can do something like this soon. I'd love a sunset ride!

Some people have wondered what's happened to me over the last few months. Business has been slow, but I wouldn't change that for a minute. I was exactly where I needed to be.
My husbands mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last February 2010 (on my husband's birthday). Towards the end of April this year, Debbie's cancer started to take over. I was blessed to be able to be there everyday and help take care of her. She passed away on June 24th. She went to be with her Heavenly Father peacefully. As sad as we all were, it was a blessing that she was taken in her sleep, just as she had prayed for.

She is missed and loved everyday. May she rest in peace.

In loving memory of my mother in law, my mother, my friend. I love you and miss you every single day!

I've known Marcy and her daughter Makiah since Erica was in Elementary school. Makiah was one of Erica's first friends when we moved her to Saugatuck schools. I was excited when Marcy asked me to photograph her family. There is something I love about a fall family session. It has to be the rich, warm colors of fall that gets me all giddy! :)

I had a great time with the Worthley family at the Apple Orchard. It was so refreshing to see a family have so much fun together. Their silliness and love for each other was phenomenal. This is the kind of love and togetherness I wish for every family.
I had a hard time picking the images for the blog preview and this is NOT a typical preview for a family. A family usually only gets this many images in a full gallery. I'm almost scared to see how large this gallery will be once I'm all done editing. :)

I am proud to say that Chelsea is my niece! :) She will be graduating from Kalkaska High School in the spring. I took the 3 hour drive to Kalkaska to photograph Chelsea and her friend Damon. We traveled all over Northern Michigan looking for new, fun locations to shoot. We ventured to Rapids City, Torch Lake, Kalkaska and Traverse City. I think we succeeded! Flower Girl Floral Co. | A Country Affair

I had the pleasure of working with Angie Shultz of Flower Girl Floral Co. for my own wedding vow renewal. So when asked to photograph some of her work, I jumped at the chance. She is AMAZING! This is just a sampling of the shots I took while at her most recent wedding. It had a country feel and I love how she displayed her work. Canning jars, limes, twine, tree bark and home-made baskets. Fantastic!

Max is the 2nd guy I had the pleasure of photographing this week. Guys are so fun! Max brought along his beautiful girlfriend Alexa, so we had to shoot a couple of them together! I had a great time with Max & Alexa. Enjoy your preview Max!!

Max found this elephant painted on the wall, so we had to snap a few by it, just for fun...We named the elephant Max. LOL!

Max had a tough time "developing" that serious face. In the beginning, if Alexa was watching, he couldn't do it. He soon mastered it and rocked it!

One of my favorites from the session so far!

We got kicked out of a location, we went a little too deep into the yard. In our defense, there were no "No Trespassing" signs.

Nothing gets my attention on a session more than a sign that says "no trespassing"...Yes, I'm naughty...I trespassed. But in my defense, the building was so worth it and it was abandoned! Well...we did run across a muskrat. Mom had our backs though and made sure he wouldn't come out and get us while we shot. :) LOL! Thanks Mom!!!

Taylor struggled a bit in the beginning with her "serious face"...but after awhile, she became a PRO!

Chyna | Class of 2011 | West Ottawa Senior Rep

I've photographed Chyna numerous times in the past. This time, we got to shoot round 1 of her senior portraits! Everytime Chyna gets in front of the camera, she turns it on and brings something new to the table.
We traveled the country side (well, Holland's country side) and found some killer new locations. I love sessions like that, when I can just drive and come upon something new. It keeps things fresh and interesting. :)
I love the images from this session and seriously had to stop myself from editing the whole session for the blog preview. LOL!

Jeff & Nichole :: Grand Rapids Engagement Session

Jeff and Nichole won a runner up prize in my wedding giveaway this past February. They will be exchanging wedding vows in October of this year. :)
Jeff and Nichole met 3 years ago. They both worked downtown Saugatuck during the summer and she had noticed him a few times working as a bouncer at the Sandbar. She thought Jeff was cute, and mentioned it to a friend. The friend dragged her down there and Jeff and Nichole hit it off right away, they talked for 2 hours. They discovered that they share the same the birthday! He asked her out for the next week and the rest is history! Jeff proposed in May 2009 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. They were there for a vacation/wedding with friends. The first night there, after they had just posed for a picture, Jeff got down on one knee and proposed.
Nichole says that she knew from the beginning that Jeff was "the one" for her. She describes him as her "missing piece".

Christina | Holland Christian :: Class of 2011

Christina is my Holland Christian Rep. We had to outrun the weather to get her first session completed. We ended up canceling her first session due to rain. So we "weathered the storm" yesterday and dealt with windy, chilly conditions. Christina was a trooper. We dodged mud puddles and high winds. Overall, I am very happy with the results. Shannon | Class of 2011

Meet Shannon. Shannon is one of my senior reps for West Ottawa High School. We had a ton of fun running around town. Shannon posed on a bulldozer, got dirty and wasn't afraid to try a pose no matter how awkward it felt. :) She was a real trooper, not to mention just stunning! I don't remember girls ever being as gorgeous when I was a kid as they are today. lol!

Some random facts about Shannon...
1. Shannon's favorite color is blue.
2. She has a dog named Sophie.
3. She was born in Tennessee.

4. Skittles are Shannon's favorite candy.
5. She would love to go to Arizona State for college (snow doesn't exist there!) :)

6. Shannon enjoys skiing and snowboarding.
7. Her favorite thing to do when she's bored is listen to music.

8. Shannon wants to study and teach special ed after she graduates.
9. She could literally live off of only fruit. :)
10. She can't WAIT until summer!

Random Fact 1: Emma is absolutely obsessed with TV! Her favorite shows are Six Feet Under and Will & Grace.

Random Fact 3: Even though she lives in a small town, she is a big city girl at heart. She says she will definitely live in New York city one day!

Random Fact 4: When she was younger, everyone thought she looked like the little girl in the Pepsi commercials, Hallie Kate Eisenberg.

Random Fact 5: She used to have a terrible fear of flying, but now she can't wait until the next time she can get on a plane!

Random Fact 6: She was 4 the first time she visited Saugatuck, and ended up moving there 12 years later.

Random Fact 7: She is an only child and she absolutely loves it!

Random Fact 8: She LOVES her Nikon D90 more than she can possibly say!

Random Fact 9: She used to live in Detroit...well, the suburbs of Detroit. But she loves to make people think that she grew up in the hood. LOL!!!

And last but not least, Random Fact 10: She is obsessed with celebrities. She is always cutting out magazine photos of her favorites and making collages.

Hello, my name is Jennie I'm a fan of your photos, I saw your status update about this wonderful contest last night, & thought I should give it a try. I'm doing this for my younger sister Amanda, & she has no idea I'm doing this.

Amanda was a freshman in high school when she met her husband Max. (Yes husband, I'll explain more about that) He was a senior. Everyday she would ask me to talk to him for her & put in a good word. I thought of this as a puppy love crush, & never thought it would be anything more. I mean she was 14 years old. But I told her "No sorry, I may not know him that well, but I know for a fact he's not the type to settle down.."

That didn't stop her at all. So one day after school we were pulling out of the high school parking lot, & she saw him walking to his car, she shouted out my window & said "I like the way you walk!" Probably one of the corniest lines I have ever heard haha. But for some reason it worked. He got her email from a friend & started talking to her online, then it led to him taking her out to dinner.

Now I was really iffy about this because, I knew he jumped from girl to girl, & thought she was going to get hurt. So homecoming came around & he asked her to be his date. That for him, was the perfect opportunity to ask her to be his girlfriend, & of course she said "YES!" :)

After months of dating, he had something really important to tell her. He never thought they'd last that long & told her the bad news. All of his brothers are in the air force, & it's a tradition to join.

He was going to be gone for 6 years, & if he knew things were going to work out so great with them, he wouldn't have joined. But it was too late. A week after graduation, he had to leave the country to visit family, before going off to Texas to start his term.

While he was gone, Amanda wasn't feeling so good, & it wasn't depression. She found out that she was pregnant, & didn't know what to do. So she came to me, I told her that everything would be ok, & she needed to call Max as soon as possible, & that's what she did. She cried for nights, telling him she didn't want this baby. But he told her no, we have to keep it because its the right thing to do, & he promised he's help her all the way through, even though he wouldn't be here.

She decided to keep this child, but hid this all from our parents. Three months passed by & she still didn't want to tell them. I told her she needed to do this because we need to see if the baby is healthy or not, but she refused. She was terrified. Our parents are very traditional, so this would crush them, maybe even push them to kick Amanda out of the house. By the time she was about three and a half months, school was starting up again, & then the rumors started flying. People noticed, but we just kept denying it.

A girl we know told her step dad about it, & he's best friends with our dad. That night my dad confronted us & told us that his friend said congrats on your grandchild. My dad was furious & demanded to know why he would say such a thing, I knew that it was time to tell him, but Amanda replied as fast as she could & said his step daughter started that rumor because they don't get a long. For some reason, it made sense to my dad. So he just ignored it. Amanda was extremely good at hiding her tummy. No one noticed, & it killed me to keep this secret from my family. So I talked to her alone one night & said that if she didn't tell our parents, then I would. It took a lot of talking but she agreed to it, but she wanted to be safe when she told them the news, so she set up an appointment with our high school counselor.

Our counselor said that everything will be ok, & that she'll call our mom to come in & talk about it. My mom walked in not knowing what was going on, then Amanda dropped the bomb, my mom was in tears, & they didn't speak for days. Finally, after 4 days of not speaking, my mom told her that she needed to tell Max's parents about this. Which was crazy to me because they didn't even know Max had a girlfriend. So we went over to their house & explained everything, our moms were both in tears, but they said, we will get through this.

With Max being gone still, everything was was harder for her. He told her that he would be able to come back for Christmas to visit. That was pretty much the only time of year he was guaranteed to come back home to see her. Another three months passed, & it was December, about a week before Christmas he arrived, it was the happiest she has ever been since everything had happened. On Christmas Eve, she noticed sharp pains in her body, so Max's family rushed her to the hospital.

An hour later, she had a little boy & named him Aiden. He was 3 months early. He weighed about 2 lbs, and they rushed him to the hospital in Grand Rapids. No one knew if he was going to survive or not. He needed to have heart surgery.

Two days before Max had to fly back, we all went to see Aiden together at the hospital, & in front of the incubator he said that he wanted to grow old with her & that he wanted to take care of her & Aiden for the rest of his life, then got down on one knee & said "Baby will you marry me?" She was in tears and said yes. He knew he wouldn't be back until 6-9 months later. So he asked, "Will you marry me tomorrow? Before I leave?".

Everything was so sudden, but she had so much faith in the relationship, she said yes. As of right now Aiden is growing up very fast & he's very healthy. Amanda & Max have now been together for about 4 years. They have been married for 2.

They haven't had a real wedding, so they have been saving for one & have chosen the date. It will be on August 21, 2010. Max is still gone, but they keep they're webcams on 24/7 so that her & Aiden can talk to him as much as they can. He is now stationed in Korea & will be there until June.

In June he will be moved to California for his last 2 years. After their wedding, Amanda & Aiden, will be able to move to California with Max & finally get to start their lives together. As of now, they are both saving money for the wedding.

I really think that they both deserve this because they're been through a lot together. Being a young mom at 16 & raising her son alone is very hard. I know that on her big day she will be very happy, & words couldn't describe how she would feel about you capturing all those precious moments for them:)

I've been giving alot of thought recently to my business and where I want to go with it in 2010. I would really like to get more than my foot in the door in regards to weddings and I like to run a contest at least a couple of times per year, so after much thought, I've come up with this...
In May of this year, my husband and I will renew our vows to each other. When I think back on the day that I married my husband, almost 15 years ago there are some things that I do not remember. I do not have those memories, because I don't have the pictures from that day. Someone very special to me offered to take pictures that day, with film...and unfortunately the images, after processing, were not very good. Through no fault of their own, their camera just wasn't working properly, so I don't have those images...only the memories in my head.
I love LOVE...I LOVE to watch a groom as he see's his bride for the first time on their wedding day. I LOVE to watch a couple exchange their marriage vows. I LOVE to see the excitement of the bride and groom after they are pronounced man and wife...I just love LOVE!

This is my not so baby girl, Erica. She just turned 14. Boy, do I feel old!! She is a freshman at Saugatuck High School. We couldn't be more proud of her. She's on the honor roll, and plays 3 sports! Volleyball, Softball and her favorite is basketball. She's growing up so quickly...it makes me sad. I may have to break out the old scrapbooks to get a peak of that adorable little girl that she once was. She is growing up to be a very beautiful girl. Hold on to your kids...they grow up way to fast!

Nicole & Johnny, Part 2 :: Wedding Photography, Detroit MI

I love to watch couples in love. I love to watch couples get married. I cry at weddings. I cry... behind the lens. I am huge sap!

This wedding was no different, in fact, it was actually worse! Nicole has been a dear friend of mine since we were 15. Nicole and I, both from Michigan, ended up at the same High School in Paragould, AR. We met at a time in our lives when we really needed somebody. She & I were going through similar problems and we just clicked...both introduced by different friends, our personalities clicked and for those few short months we were in Arkansas, we were inseparable.

I moved back to Michigan during the 2nd semester of my senior year. Nicole stayed in Arkansas, I knew I was gonna miss her! Years went by before we saw each other again. I had been looking for her, and she for me. One day, I googled her and came upon an email address. I took a chance and emailed, not knowing if it was her. I gave my phone number in hopes that this person was her, or knew of her.

On my 30th birthday, 3 years ago, the phone rang. On the end was Nicole! It had been nearly 12 years since I spoke with her.

Nicole lives in the Detroit area, so we do not get to see each other as often as we'd like. Our lives keep us both very busy, but we still find time to chat on the phone and via email when we can.

I was honored when Nicole asked me to photograph her wedding. How could I not say yes? :)

I met Johnny the day of the wedding. I was extremely thrilled for both of them. Johnny is a kind hearted man, and boy does he love Nicole! It is evident in the way he looks at her, speaks to her and about her!

Johnny has been in the military for 7 months. He will be leaving on November 8 for Alaska, so I wanted to make sure I got them a large preview done to enjoy before he leaves.

Thank you Nicole and Johnny for letting me capture your wedding day. I love you both!

What a treat it was to "shoot" Marla! She was so fun and up for anything. I got to use my new lens at this session, which I was totally stoked about!
Marla is a contest winner (from last fall), and a recent high school graduate. She is off to college this fall and she will be great, I am sure of it!! What a wonderful, fun girl she is!
We wandered about town, stopping at various places, came across a plane, a cool rusted stair case, some green grass and some killer sky! There are so many that I loved, you get a super large preview Marla! Enjoy!

Morgan's last session took place at the beach. I'll miss her blue eyes, that's for sure!

The waves were crazy huge, so we tryed to take advantage of the spray splashing against the pier. Well...along comes a wave and it landed...RIGHT ON TOP OF MY HEAD!!! Thankfully my camera came out of the deal ok, but I was a little wet!

Janet and I had quite the adventure. Cute rainboots, a violin, washed out roads, and sunset made for some great shots. :) We traveled the back roads, the docks of Saugatuck, the Felt Mansion and that was just the morning session!!

For the evening, we ventured into Grand Haven, and found a really cute new spot. The colors were fabulous!

One thing I found out about Janet...she's a 'hummer'. While shooting, I kept hearing something, couldn't figure out what it was until I finally got close enough..Janet hums when she smiles! :)

Joe decided he was done, so Brandy, Kayla and I headed off to Spruce Hill Farm to shoot around a bit more and get some shots of her and Kayla. There were long horns and horses...I can honestly say, they both are intimidating to me!! Lots of outtakes, from our session, but I'll be nice and not post them. Love ya B!!

I've got some great stuff coming up...the next couple of months are going to be very, very busy. Sessions are booking up, yay! One of best friends is coming for a visit, she'll be here from Tennesse and I will be shooting her daughter. Her daughter want's to be model, so we are going put together a portfolio for her.

Birthday Bash (and for those that know me personally, know I live for this every year!!) is coming on June 20 & 21. We will only be attending Saturday, as our lives are just crazy right now and there just isn't time for me to attend two days worth. :(

4th of July weekend will be extremely busy. I'll be out of town. Up north in Kalkaska Mi. I'll be shooting my neice, while taking some much needed time to hang out with the family on Torch Lake. Look for pics...that place is BEA-utiful!

Now, on to the E...
